This is the original cover painting by Jack Gaughan for part 2 of the serralized novel by Ben Bova, used for the cover of Galaxy magazine January 1971 issue. The artwork is 16.5’ x 11.5” in gouache or acrylics on board. Gaughan usually signs in initials "JG" - I am not sure if those are buried somewhere in the image, but he is credited for the cover.
