Acquired as part of a trade for art, and now I must reduce the number of paintings in my closet....so you have a bargain here on a rare example of Powers' marvelous early Island scenes, one of a series of paintings depicting a scene from the Virgin Islands - and it carries the Christiansted title in his hand, bottom left below the painting Because of the style and subject matter, I believe this may have been a possible alternate cover for "Tales of the Caribbean" by Garland Roark (Doubleday, 1959) - see photo of that book and similarities! It's a lovely composition, beautifully colored, acrylic on paper 9" x 12" and comes matted and framed under glass to 16" x 20". There is a possible date bottom right but it is illegible. This is a beauty, no doubt about it, and one of the very few of this kind that I have ever been able to offer!
