Richard Bober: Red Queen Portrait

Original portrait study of Edna May Oliver as the Red Queen - in the Paramount film "Alice in Wonderland" from 1933, one of the many memorable roles for which this actress became famous.  Richard completed several character studies associated with "Alice" both after and before he completed his book cover for "Fantastic Alice" (Ace, 1995)  - as it often came to pass with many themes that inspired him (see also Cleopatra, Turner landscapes etc)  Painted in oil on rag paper, 15" x 11.25" and signed in pencil left side shoulder and also stamped Richard Bober Studio on the reverse
