Dynamic, and detailed Original signed illustration, a real beauty appearing  facing page 332 of H. Rider Haggard's adventure story "Swallow – A tale of the great trek" in the 1st edition published by Longmans, Green and Co. 1899.  The caption reads: "Black clutching hands caught feet and bridle rein," - saving  the the title character from another dangerous situation....a Dutch girl raised in South Africa, "who soons finds herself face-to-face with a shipwrecked crew, the love of her life, a murderer who wishes to kidnap her, and the possibility of war in her region and homeland.”    This is an original painting in black and white watercolor and gouache, the mage c. 10.5” x 18.5” matted and Framed under glass 16.5” x 24.5”  and is signed bottom right in the image
