Kelly Freas: "Unwillingly to School"
This is an original interior artwork by Freas created for the classic science fiction novelette "Unwillingly to School" by Pauline Ashwell, which originally appeared in the January 1958 issue of Astounding Science Fiction magazine. The art features a central plot element of the story; the main character is "Lysistrata "Lizzie" Lee, a plucky daughter of a wealthy farmer on a rough mining planet (and) After causing a series of chaotic situations, she is essentially forced ("unwillingly") to go to Earth to get an education at a university program for cultural engineering" - whence the huge, high-tech, academic "teaching machine" packed with futuristic gizmos as only Kelly can draw them! Titled and sourced by Freas on the matte, done in ink and ink wash on paper, c. 6" x 7" matted and framed to 10" x 11" and signed in logo bottom right in the image.
