John Berkey: "Five Against the Sea" prelim
This is an original preliminary painting by John Berkey (1932-2008), one of a handful from a private collection returning to the market for the first time in 22 years. This prelim was created in preparation for completing the final art for the true story of "courage and survival" by Ron Arias published by New American Library, 1989 (I show the cover for reference) Berkey captures the power and danger of the sea - for this "extraordinary story of five Costa Rican fisherman who in June 1988 were rescued and found to be in remarkably good health after spending a record amount of time - 142 days - adrift at sea." The art is painted in casein and acrylic on illustration board, 10.25" x 13.25" and is signed "Berkey" lower right. Strong and with great visual effect, fully representative of Berkey's style.
