Jack Gaughan: Sir Richard's Robots

This is an original artwork by Jack Gaughan used to illustrate the short story by Felix Gotschalk "Sir Richard's Robots" that appeared in Cosmos Science Fiction Magazine issue for November 1977 (Vol 1, #4).  This colorful image appeared on page 55, the cross over page to Thurston's novelette, Wheels of Westward - which is interesting because Gaughan therefore was credited for illustrating both stories, as the image was perfectly suited to both!   The work consists of a base painted surface in acrylics (pink and blue) with acetate overlay containing the black part of the drawing....with tracing paper over all of it providing instructions from Gaughan (who was the Art Director for the magazine) for the printing- adding  one color (yellow).  Back in the day, this was the least expensive way/short cut toward achieving a multi-color look, because it was considered simple "one color" printing vs. "four color".   It's unsigned, with the image 11" x 8.5" on board 16" x 11"  I am showing here a photo of the table of contents for Nov 77 to show the credits, plus photos of each layer, plus the final published pages (to show where the final color of yellow was applied)  A "press proof" page of the final art will be included in the purchase!
