This is a rare one by Jack Gaughan, which - according to his notes on the back of the painting - was created as an "Interior for Cosmos #5, which never was printed – though color proofs exist"  Dated January 1978 (see info back of painting) and signed (indistinctly) bottom right in the image, this original painting in acrylics is 20" x 16" on canvas board framed to 21" x 17" and it's definitely a "Beauty"!!!   Gaughan was the Art Director for all four published issues of the magazine and contributed many images to the issues, and of course came up with the concepts (the story which may have prompted this "Medusa" is unknown) as well as producing dozens of book covers for major publishers.
