H.R. Van Dongen: Ribbon in the Sky
This is an original Astounding Magazine cover painting by Henry Richard Van Dongen (1920-2010) for the lead story "Ribbon in the Sky" by Murray Leinster - for the June 1957 issue. Van Dongen did a great job with this story, about "a Med Service man, Calhoun, and his tormal (a small, cat-like creature) sidekick, Murgatroyd, who are on a routine mission to spread health across the planets in their sector. However, due to a minor mistake—a wrong button pressed on a computer—their journey takes an unexpected detour to a forgotten colony on an icy planet." Art is in oils on canvas, 20" x 16" plus framed without glass. Small paint loss mid right on the edge, can easily be covered or fixed. And well worth the effort - early Van Dongen's are rare to the market!
