Guy Frechette: "Dragon Tooth Dagger"

Frechette is a Canadian three-dimensional science fiction artist who was active in the 1980s and 1990s, and whose unique and intricately designed fantasy creations made of animal bone made him a standout within the SF/F community at conventions and as well as multiple nominations for the prestigious Chesley Awards.  This truly one-of-a-kind dagger was created 1987 and features a large jaw bone that's been fashioned into the guard of a dagger, with a part of a leg bone forming the grip and pommel. . . with distinctive hand-painted decorations and symbols and embellishments (see photos) All his bone creations are coated with urathane to preserve the designs, and this piece is also signed and dated "Guy....'87" on the back. NOTE: This work - like all of Frechette's work using animal bones - is made of genuine animal remains, using only the bones of animals that died of natural causes. No animals were ever killed to make the art.  Including the hilt, the dagger is about 15" long, split evenly into 7.5" blade and a 7.5" handle  and was made to be purely decorative.
