Isn't it fun when publishers flip an image?  Yes, there's a reason for doing that ( the way the eye tracks when reading) but with all due respect to Tor Books....this paintings is 100% effective just as it was originally conceived and painted!  (and PS: Gary hated when art directors did this!)  Created for the cover of the SF novel by Pat Murphy, and published by Tor, 2000 (see published cover for reference) this is the original painting in oils on canvas mounted on wood panel, 24" x 16" and signed and dated bottom right.   It also comes custom framed, see photo.   PS: Involving viewers via direct eye contact with his characters  - is one of Gary's signature moves as an artist.  And the tattoos are a plus!
