James A. Michener was one mainstream, well-known author for which Pether received commisions for cover illustrations - among them, this non-fiction novel chronicling the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. This is the original cover painting for the edition published by Corgi, 1985. (I show the cover for reference) It's a gorgeous scene and just imagine it packed into a painting 16" x 11.25" - Pether excelled in these sorts of romantic scenes, requiriing realistic attention to detail. This is hand-painted in gouache and acrylic on illustration board, and comes with a label attesting to its authenticity signed by Pether's widow, mounted to the back. It's a beauty, by a famous author....and if you want this one, don't hesitate.
