In the 1980s Dave Pether started producing several paintings for the weekend British TV series called London Weekend Television (LWT) - well known for showing American films and TV show series as well as British ones. The images were used for intro titles as well as backgrounds for commercial breaks. Most would have been used 1983-1987. For lovers of British Comedy, this is a 1965 film starring Sid James - commissioned for a LWT "Sunday Matinee" showing - as the acetate overlay attests! Hand-painted in gouache and acrylic on illustration board, it's c. 13" x 16" plus there's a label attesting to authenticity signed by Pether's widow on the back. It's a fun piece of English nostalgia and in great condition.
