James A. Michener was one mainstream, well-known author for which Pether received commisions for cover illustrations - among them, "Return to Paradise"  a collection of short stories that was a sequel to his Pulitzer Prize-winning book "Tales of the South Pacific," the collection that launched his career in 1947.   Published by Corgi in paperback, 1979 (I show the cover as reference), this original cover painting is hand-painted in gouache and acrylic on illustration board, c. 25" x 15" and comes with a label attesting to its authenticity signed by Pether's widow, mounted to the back. Impressively sized and gorgeously rendered, this is a beautiful painting for a title by a memorable author - so don't hesitate!
