In the 1980s Dave Pether started producing several paintings for the weekend British TV series called London Weekend Television (LWT) - well known for showing American films and TV show series as well as British ones. This portrait was commissioned by LWT sometime during the period 1983-1987 , but for what purpose, and the exact date of creation, is unknown. It is handsomely rendered, showing a very youthful Burton, handpainted in Gouache and acrylic on illustration board with an acetate overlay that shows the text, 13.75" x 11.75" and comes with a label attesting to authenticity signed by Pether's widow, mounted to the back. Note: there are some small patches of fading paint by the nose (see close up photo) which likely can be restored - it's a fine image otherwise and a neat work for anyone who is Burton fan!
