In the 1980s Dave Pether created some marvelous cover paintings for various historical romances - as this one appears to be, but was listed in his inventory catalog simply as "Unknown Edwardian domestic woman". It is beautifully done in sepia tones, gouache and acrylic, on illustration board, 15.5" x 9.25" There is some damage to the bottom edge of the painting, primarily in the border, which I believe a matte will cover - and scuffing to the background curtains and wall, a section of the painting which I believe functioned primarily for the placement of the title and author and which can be cropped or restored without too much effort. The main figure, importantly, is perfect, and very well rendered! Nevertheless I have adjusted the price commensurate with the condition issues. A label attesting to authenticity, signed by Pether's widow, is on the back.
