This is a lovely example of one of Sweet's early book cover commissions, the original painting created for the historical novel "Unto a Good Land: The Emigrants II" by Vilhelm Moberg, published by Popular Library/Fawcett, 1954.  Book Two of Moberg's Emigrant Novels takes the emigrants by riverboat, steam wagon, Great Lakes steamship, and oxcart to Chisago County - and this fine scene.  Likely in oil on board, 24" x 16"  and signed bottom right. Some chipping of the paint along the edges, but will be covered by a frame...and also....consider the age!
