This is one of two original preliminary artworks created for Book #3 of the "Adventures of Kate" trilogy by T. A. Barrron, published by Tor, in paperback, 1996 (I show the cover as reference). Part of the "Lost Years of Merlin" series of popular YA novels by the author, this prelim fully captures the magical effect and is a great concept.... done in acrylic on illustration board, 7" x 4.25"  and is titled, signed and dated 1996 by Darrell on the reverse.  NOTE: the final art for this one is also available, as of the listing of this prelim - check it out!!!.
