This is a rarity: the original preliminary painting created for centerfold image featured in the Ballantine 1982 J.R.R. Tolkien Calendar published by Ballantine Books in 1981.  I am showing the cover of the calendar and the final art as published, for your reference - so you can see how closely the prelim mirrors the published image.  The calendar featured art by Sweet based on The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion - although Sweet wrote "Return of the King" on the reverse!  Finely Painted in  acrylic on Upson board with dimensions 24" x 13"
