This is the original preliminary art created for one of the fantasy novels in "A Bard's Tale" series by Mark Shepherd, published by Baen in paperback, 1997 (I show the published  cover for reference) Interestingly, Darrell titled this one "Moonrise" - perhaps told it would be used for another book in the series.....but It's practically a miniature version of the final cover for "Escape. . . ", with marvelous characters and owl!   Handpainted in acrylic on illustration board, 7" x 4.25" and is titled and signed on the back of the painting
