This is one of two original preliminary artworks created for "Barren Lands"  one in Doranna Durgin's "Changespell" series of SF/F novels,  published by Baen Books, 1998 (I show the cover as reference). One of Sweet's larger prelims, wonderfully detailed and dynamic, beautiful composition with gorgeous horses -   finely done in acrylic on illustration board, 8" x 5"  and is titled, signed and dated 1997 by Darrell on the reverse.
