In the 1980s Dave Pether started producing several paintings for the weekend British TV series called London Weekend Television (LWT) - well known for showing American films and TV show series as well as British ones. The images were used for intro titles as well as backgrounds for commercial breaks. Most would have been used 1983-1987. The Pether family is unsure of the title for this one, Dave listed it in his inventory as "New York?" but based on the image I'm going to say it's "Atlantic City" - a movie from 1980 starring Susan Sarandon and Burt Lancaster. This is a good sized painting, 12.25" x 17", hand-painted in gouache and acrylic on illustration board, plus there's a label attesting to authenticity signed by Pether's widow on the back. It's a great scene, and in great condition.
