This is the original cover painting for the novel by Helen Forrester, published by Harper Collins UK in their paperback edition, 1990. (I show the published cover for reference) Pether excelled in sensitively rendered, detailed scenes which captured the essence of a story, and his style was a perfect match for novels by Helen Forrester (pen name of June Huband Bhatia), an Anglo-Canadian author known for her books about her youth in Liverpool, England, during the Great Depression and World War II, as well as several works of fiction. One of four remaining cover paintings for this author, and featuring a favorite topic: that of immigrants who settled in Liverpool. Handpainted in Acrylic and gouache on illustration board , 16 x 10.5" and comes with a label attesting to its authenticity signed by Pether's widow, mounted to the back.
