"heavy with despair, violence, and uncomfortable scenes of bodily decay" this is a fitting cover illustration for the science fiction novel by Michael McDowell, published by Panther, 1973 (cover shown for reference) Surreal, and one of Haberfield's most memorable,  hand-painted in gouache on illustration board, large than most of his illustrations with an image 23" x 14.5"  and publication and artist's details on the reverse.
