This is the original painting created for the book cover illustration for "A Collection of John Francis Cuddy Stories" by Jeremiah F. Healy and Jeremiah Healy, published by Crippen and Landru in hardcover, 1998.  Hand-painted with flair and detail in acrylics on unstretched canvas, 24.5" x 16" and signed by the artist bottom center.  Heyer produced several book covers for this specialty publisher of mysteries, and perhaps you can see why - the trench coated figure is memorable, dramatic, and perfect!
